Veritas Press: Self-Paced Bible New Testament 1: The Gospels {Review}

Veritas Press provided us with a subscription to their Self-Paced Bible for the New Testament 1: The Gospels. This was our first time reviewing for Veritas Press and we were really excited about the program.

Each lesson has an introduction, review, the new lesson, games, the gospels memory song, review of the lesson quizzes, and wrap-up. There is a test lesson for each group of lessons as well. For everything 3 lessons, there is one test lesson.

An outline of lesson 14 is as follows:

  • Introduction
  • Review Birth of Christ
  • Jesus Came to Save Creation Too
  • The Curse Reversed for Creation
  • Jesus was Born in a Stable
  • Origins of Some Biblical Heroes
  • Jesus' Earthly Father
  • How God has Used Angels
  • An Angel Appears to Joseph
  • Memory Song
  • The Shepherds Find Jesus
  • Review Birth of John the Baptist
  • Wrap-Up

Each lesson is introduced by Benjamin, a carpenter, and Jude, the apprentice. They are in their wood shop (or take special "trips" to places that they are discussing). Throughout the lesson there are games and Bible stories told.

We decided to use the program as a family. Our favorite time to pull out the computer was for lunch time. All of the kids would sit around the computer and watch and listen. They would take turns answering questions and playing the games. We even took our computer when we traveled this month and they watched the lessons whenever they could and several when there was a rainy day.

I like that the program explains difficult concepts to the children in a way that is easy for them to understand. Many times there were ideas that I didn't really know how to address with the kids and was interested to hear how that the program would explain them.

Li says that he liked the games and the memory song and when Jude couldn't speak. He learned about when Gabriel told Mary that she would have a son.

Jo-Jo reports that she liked how Jude asked all of that she was wondering. She learned a lot about how unusual John's birth was and that Zacharias was highly honored by being chosen like he was. She hadn' realized how the culture felt about not having children and how blessed he was by John's birth.

Ceesa says that she liked the memory song and the activities. When Benjamin would explain what was happening it was funny when Jude asked funny questions. Jude pretended he was dumb and that was pretty funny. I learned about the incarnation of Jesus. I didn't even know what the word was called incarnation. And until the video I didn't realize that John lept inside of his mother.

Our future plan is to continue to use it until we complete the lessons throughout the summer.

Wishing you homeschool blessings,
