Hannah The Belle of Prayer {Review & Giveaway)

We just received a copy of the first book from the Bible Belles series to review. We were excited to get our first peek of Hannah The Belle of Prayer.

About the Series
This series of books includes five women of the Bible: Hannah, Esther, Abigail, Ruth, and Deborah. Each of the belles' names fit the acronym HEARD from Exodus 28:35. The sound of the bells will be heard. It is designed for young girls.

  • Hannah is the Belle of Prayer
  • Esther is the Belle of Patience
  • Abigail is the Belle of Bravery
  • Ruth is the Belle of Loyalty
  • Deborah is the Belle of Leadership

  • Merriam-Webster defines belle as "a popular and attractive girl or woman; especially: a girl or woman whose charm and beauty make her a favorite." Each of the belles of the Bible were chosen because they are examples of someone who's beauty radiates from within.

About Book One: Hannah The Belle of Prayer
Rooney Cruz is the main character of this series. Book one starts out with 9 year old Rooney at school being teased by three girls. After being hit with a rock and slipping in mud, she goes to her favorite spot under a big tree at the far end of the playground.

To her surprise. Mari, Rooney's very own fairy-sized angel, arrives with a ring noise. Mari listens to what Rooney is going through and then provides a window into 1 Samuel 1. Hannah is there and in great sorrow about not being able to have a child. Peninnah teases her too. Hannah turns to the Lord for her comfort and prays. Later, Hannah is blessed with a child that she names Samuel.

Rooney is presented with her very own bell to remind her that prayer is a "superpower" that she can use just like Hannah.

    Our Experience
All of the kids love a read aloud. And although the book is designed for girls. Li likes to listen too. In fact, he even asked Grandma to read to him.

I initially read it to all of the kids. Since Wheel climbed up in my lap to hear the story too. But now all of the kids take turns reading it.

Ceesa says this is her favorite picture.

This book could be used in lots of ways in your homeschool.

    • It would be nice for a girl's tea party.
    • Another idea is for every time your daughter meets a new belle, she could get her very own bell.
    • Girls could also do a character study and look at each of the individual "superpowers:" prayer, patience, bravery, loyalty, and leadership.
    • We'd definitely recommend reading each belle's Bible story straight from the Bible too.

My little girl loves princesses. This looks like a perfect way to teach her more about true princesses!
