Amy Puetz from Golden Prairie Press sent us Countdown to Thanksgiving ebook ($17.00) geared for ages 6-14 to review. You can purchase it in two versions: 1) color ebook and 2) black & white physical book.
We really loved using Heroes and Heroines (see our review) from Golden Prairie Press, so we were excited when Amy offered Countdown to Thanksgiving to us to review!
What it is all About
Countdown to Thanksgiving has daily lessons over a 2 week period, including Saturdays and Sundays. Each daily section of the countdown can take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes (sometimes longer with some activities) and it really works great as a whole family activity.
Additional Materials Requiredbasic supplies
computer and printer, if you wish to print materials
supplies for individual activities vary (we'd recommend deciding what you'll need for the entire 2 weeks before you start on the countdown so that you have materials prepared and on hand)
Every morning, before we do anything else, we have family time. We gather together and sing a hymn, pray, and learn a scripture verse. We decided to use this time for the story of the day.
Indian Head Dress
We chose to sprinkle the activities throughout the day. Some were great afternoon activities and others were better suited to when Poppa was home. With Wheel, it is much easier to cook when Poppa is at home.
CalendarWe aren't able to play the music on the piano, but we enjoyed looking up the songs on the computer and singing along.
We have a family tradition for Thanksgiving. Starting on November 1, we place a cornecopia on the counter with little slips of paper. Each of our family members write some things that we are thankful for on each slip, fold them, and put them in the cornecopia. Then on Thanksgiving we take random slips out and read them cuddled on the sofa. Starting this year we are going to add a Thanksgiving countdown as one of our family traditions.
