Marco Polo's Homecoming

~photo of map from Animals Marco Polo Saw
When Marco Polo finally arrived home, no one believed it was really the Polos and refused to let them enter their house. The fact that they were still alive was rather unbelievable, as most of the 600 people that had left China were dead from the lethal combination of storms, disease, and hostile natives.

After Marco returned to Venice, a war broke out between Venice and Genoa. Marco was inprisoned with novelist, Rusticello. In their lonely prison cell, the story of Marco's travels were brought to life.
After we finished the book, we watched sections from the History Channel's Explorers video.
And this one too...

On Marco's death bed in 1324, he was asked if his stories were true, he replied, "I  have only told half of what I saw, because no one would have believed me."

I am working on a year long series on the Polo family travels and thought I'd share it with you. Enjoy and please post any additional information you have for us or corrections.
