Preschool and Kindergarten Mathematics: Money

Learning money can be tricky...

All of those names and values...

We learn money in two ways:

1) Songs: Here are some songs that we love to use:

2) We play store too. One of my kids’ favorite things to do is as to set up a store by putting prices on some of their toys and then using money to buy them. We played this with varying amounts depending on how high they could count. My goal was to have them recognize a quarter, dime, nickel, penny, and dollar bill and know the amount in each. Then we worked on counting each of them individually—nickels by 5’s, dimes by 10, etc.

It is such fun to learn money this way and it takes no time at all.
