Apples, Feet, Music, Math, and Art with Growing in Grace Sing and Play Activity Kit {Sponsored}

Thank you to Family Christian for sponsoring our Growing in Grace Sing and Play Activity Kit art, music, and math activities. Stay in touch with all Family Christian has to offer by visiting them: FacebookTwitterPinteresttumblr, and Instagram.

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. ~Psalm 95:1

We received  the Growing in Grace Sing and Play Activity Kit to try out, which I think would be especially fun to gift to your child on a long car trip or on a camping trip when it starts raining!

We made some fun art and math projects inspired by the kit too. Hey I'm a homeschooling momma, so if I can squeeze in some other subjects you can count on it I will.

Well when we received the kit, I immediately presented it to Li, who couldn't wait to get started. Wheel was not to be outdone however.

There was some dancing and singing. (That babe just melts my heart. He's dancing in a circle.)

There was some coloring and sticker-ing fun.

And there was some all around silliness.

Growing in Grace Sing and Play Activity Kit volume 1 comes in a sturdy CD case with a handle. It includes a music CD, a 20 page activity book, 2 sticker pages, and 2 crayons with 4 colors.

Songs included:
  • Everybody's Welcome
  • God Said It Was Good
  • I Thank You, God
  • The Old Gray Cat
  • Apples, Apples
  • Ziggy Polka
  • No More Pie
  • God Made My Feet
  • Oats and Wheat and Barley
  • Doodley Doo
  • Hallelujah, Sing Hosanna
  • William Tell Overture
  • It's Springtime
  • Wiggle and Hop
  • Sing Together
  • The Hokey Pokey
  • God's Sun and Moon
  • Our Father in Heaven

The activity book has coloring pages, shadow matching activities, connect the dots, matching days of the week to creation, sticker pages, matching numerals to a number of objects, a maze, matching objects to identical objects partly hidden, one of these things is not like the other page, tracing , color by music note, match animal tracks to animals, and drawing.

We were inspired by the songs Apples, Apples and God Made My Feet to try out some art and math projects.

Apples, Apples Art and Math

Supplies
  • Watercolor Paper (other paper can be used, but I like watercolor paper because it is heavier and doesn't curl as easily)
  • Tempera Paint in red and orange
  • A Paint brush and other materials for making texture
  • Scissors
  • A mat for the mess (we used a cardboard clothing gift box)
  • Apple template (I sketched ours, but a cookie cutter would work as well)
  • Green and brown construction paper
  • Glue stick or 2 sided tape

Directions

1. Set up your work space. Swirl the paint onto the paper.

2. Let your little artist at it.

3. Add more paint as needed, just be sure to fill all white space.

4. Then it is time to experiment with textures. Have your child use the odds and ends you've collected to make patterns and designs.

5. Once dry, use your apple template to trace out apple shapes.

6. Then start cutting. (I used the cutting time to give Ceesa her dictation for the day!)

7. At this point, you'll also cut out and add your stem and leaf; however, Li wasn't having it and wanted to use his apples as soon as I cut them out.

8. Time for math games.

Here are some of our suggestions:
~Count the apples
~Separate apples into two groups with the same number in them, or one less, or one more. Sometimes you make the first group and sometimes let your little one make the group
~Write out numerals on a  separate sheet of paper and have your child match the number of apples to the numeral
~Separate your apples by skip counting in 2's and 5's

God Made My Feet Tracing, Cutting, and Measuring Activity

Supplies
  • construction paper
  • pencil or pen
  • scissors
  • feet
Directions
1) Start out by placing one foot on the construction paper. (Boy his feet sure look long, luckily his hands are still chunky or my Momma's heart might cry!)

2. Trace around first one foot.

3. Then the other. Have your child help you. If you want a more perfect foot outline, you can go around yourself as well.

4. Cut out those feet. If your child can handle scissors, this would be great practice.

5. If you would like, you can cut out other family members foot tracings in different colors for comparison!

6. Measure your child's foot tracing with a ruler.

7. This is a great time to talk about how important it is to read the measurement while looking at the rule right side up and how to place the object you are measuring at the end of the ruler.

8. Now you can start measuring things around the house. How many of Li's feet long is the pillow?

9. Show your child how to line those feet up end to end. :)

10. How many feet long is your head any way? :)
