Company Platter: Lunch Treat

Once in a while we have a company platter (otherwise known as a monkey platter or rat plate) for lunch. I usually use muffin tins, but this week I decided on my glass relish tray with tea cups to hold the sauces. You would have thought I was supermom. I mean Ceesa said, "You are the best mommy ever!" Well...thank you.

So I thought I would share a few of our ideas for putting together  Company Platters. Our name came from the first time I made one. The kids kept asking if we were having company for lunch. When I said no, they kept asking if I was sure. :)

We include combinations of any of these we have on hand (We usually put these together a day after a shopping trip, so there are as many options as possible.):
  • protein: boiled eggs, walnuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pecans, flaked fish, pepperoni, lunch meats, pumpkin seeds, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, trail mix,
  • produce: grapes, tomatoes, berries, bananas, kiwi, baby corn, clementines, tangerines, peaches, cherries, sprouts, apples, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, melons, plums, peppers, carrot, celery, mango, pineapple, cucumbers, mushrooms, raisins, and cranberries
  • grain: crackers, breads, rice, tortillas, and pastas
  • relishes, dips, and sauces-peanut butter, apple or pear butter, yogurt dips, pickles, olives, hot peppers, and roasted red peppers
  • desserts and extras: baked chips, popcorn, chocolate covered something, cookies, mini-pies, puddings, jello, and just about anything salty or sweet

When my girls were younger we would have something similar, though not as elaborate: different kinds of crackers, sliced cheeses and different fruits. We called it Wallace & Grommit because that's where we got the idea. Lovely memories for me and that platter of food looks yummy!
