5 Days of Teaching Creatively: Tuesday-Schooling in the Kitchen

The kitchen is probably the place that I spend most of my time. Hours are spent preparing meals that are homemade and nutritious. Is it any wonder that so much learning happens in a homeschooler's kitchen?

Kitchen schooling is such a blessed opportunity to share with your family, so much more than may at first meet the eye.

The wholeness of putting your hands to the dough. Loving your family in the preparation. Working together to create. Putting effort into something that contributes to the wellness of your entire family. And what about the smells that fill your home from the kitchen?

And the clean-up? Caring for those in your family. Contributing in the membership. Responsibility for household tasks. Learning about healthy habits and recognizing how cleaning builds a space of beauty. Determining what non-toxic cleaning supplies can do for your health and home. Rhythm in creating routine.

Of course, there is the actual food preparation. The math of cooking...fractions, doubling recipes. The science of cooking...the chemistry of yeast or baking powder or finding out what happens when cinnamon and vinegar mix (by complete accident).

Oh and then there are the science experiments that need the kitchen...baking soda and vinegar, color water mixing, preparing doughs and salt maps, and so many more.

Is the kitchen at the heart of your homeschool?

Wishing you homeschool blessings,

We spend LOT of time in the kitchen...learning is always more fun when there is a snack at the end of the lesson!
