Balloon Experiments

We had a lot of fun trying out
these balloon experiments.

For the first one,
you need baking soda,
vinegar, a soda bottle,
and a couple of balloons.
Put about 1 cup vinegar in the bottom of the bottle.
Add 1 tablespoon baking soda to one of the balloons.
Attach the balloon to the top of the bottle
(without letting any of the baking soda into the vinegar).

When you are ready, lift the balloon and
watch it fill with gas.

Use your extra balloons to repeat the experiment.
We repeated it 3 times.
It worked best if you repeated with new vinegar
and baking soda.
We let ours go and watched it deflate
flying all around the deck.
For the next experiment,
you need a balloon,
a straw, tape,
and length of yarn about 20 feet long.

Blow up the balloon, but do not tie it.
Affix the straw with 2 strips of tape.
Thread the straw on the string.

Then let go!

We repeated this one about 6 times,
but only needed one balloon.

Wishing you homeschool blessings,
Bethany

Fun! My kids love baking soda/vinegar experiments. We haven't done this one yet though...I'll have to add it to our list.
