Marco Polo Study: Chinese Inventions

The Chinese were the first to give a vaccine for small pox, to use a chain suspension bridge, use gunpowder, use a magnetic compass, use a seismograph, use porcelain, use clocks, use wheelbarrows, use umbrellas, use fishing reels, use cast iron, use steel, use paddle wheel boats, eat noodles, know the earth was round, dig for oil, fly kites, use the abacus, and drink tea.

To wrap up our study of China,

we made moon cakes:

I would recommend flashlights for lighting them.

And played games from China:

Rock, paper, scissors

Eagle and Chicks
The eagle tries to steal the chicks,
but the chicks are safe
with their momma or in the nest (like pictured).

Jug or Narrow Neck
Each person tries to throw the ball into the jar
while making one bounce.

This post is part 2 of our Marco Polo Study of China.

I am working on a year long series on the Polo family travels and thought I'd share it with you. Enjoy and please post any additional information you have for us or corrections.

Next Up: Tibet

Wishing you homeschool blessings,
Bethany
