Dry Brush

We just finished a month of trying out dry brush. We used tempera paints.

I wanted for them to learn about both the technique of using a brush that is mostly dry
and how to layer the paint.

We started out by making our own paper
with the dry brush technique.

Then we used the dry brushed papers to create fall vegetable baskets.

We got the idea from these Mexican fruit crates.

The next project was Indian corn.
We used yellow construction paper, dry brushed papers, and a brown piece of construction paper.

We used the directions here for the project and weaving.

Then we made apple trees.
We focused on layering paint colors when we made our tree trunks and backgrounds.
We used our dry brush papers for the apples and leaves.

We adapted this apple tree tutorial.

Finally, we made acorns. We combined dry brush with markers, crayons, and colored pencils.

The drawing instructions were from this site for acorn drawing.

Wishing you homeschool blessings,
Bethany
